As the calendar changes and we sail into summer, so many of us are struggling to let go.
Father, we need your grace and strength to embrace the changes ahead of us.
We know we have to open our hands and release what we’re holding before our hands have room to accept what is new.
But in letting go there’s a period of time where are hands are empty, and it feels like our hearts are empty too.
In those empty-handed moments when we think we have nothing to hold on to, remind us that You are what we should always cling to.
Sometimes we struggle to let go because we have loved this season. We loved the relationships and activities that filled this time. They were good gifts from You.
Letting go of good gifts is especially challenging. We trust You, but the unknown is always tinged with a bit of fear. Will we love the new just as much as we did the old?
Help us remember that You never change.
Your love, Your presence, Your goodness remains the same in the midst of our changing times.
Sometimes we’re so ready to let go because the season hasn’t been good. It’s been painful, challenging, and we’re way overdue for something new. Help us to let go and move forward well. Help us move forward in grace, not causing more damage.
In all that we’re letting go….
For the family letting go of preschool and embracing elementary school,
For the graduate leaving friends and family and venturing into the future,
For the family entering the tween and teen years,
For the parents facing the empty nest,
For the ones leaving behind an old job and searching for a new,
For the ones leaving a home and moving across town or across the country,
For the volunteer stepping down after years of faithful service,
For those moving forward without their loved one,
May every corner of their hearts be filled with the light of your love and the comfort of Your presence.
Help them realize in fresh new ways that You never leave us or forsake us. May their quiet moments of solitude be times of praise for the gifts You have and humble submission to what lies ahead.
With grateful hearts for Your unending love and Your presence in every transition.
