My favorite childhood authors were L.M. Montgomery and Shel Silverstein. I remember in 3rd or 4th grade taking Where the Sidewalk Ends in for show and tell and having the teacher read a couple poems. Yes, I was a book nerd who took books in for show and tell! In fact, my Shel Silverstein books have been so well loved that there are sections that are falling out!
I have passed that love of Shel Silverstein on to Little Miss and T-Rex. Yesterday, we snuggled up under blanket and I read poem after poem after poem. When I came across “Rain” I found it so appropriate with the weather we’ve had the past couple weeks that I just had to share it with you. So, enjoy, and I hope you have a safe, happy, dry Memorial Day weekend!
Rain by Shel Silverstein
I opened my eyes
And looked up at the rain,
And it dripped in my head
And flowed into my brain,
And all that I hear as I lie in my bed
Is the shishity-slosh of the rain in my head.
I step very softly,
I walk very slow,
I can’t do a handstand –
I might overflow,
So pardon the wild crazy thing I just said –
I’m just not the same since there’s rain in my head.
And I added this to the Things I Love Thursday at Diaper Diaries!
Dad says
Shel Silverstein wrote some wonderful poems. He also wrote “A Boy Named Sue” for Johnny Cash and “The Cover of the Rolling Stone” for Dr. Hook. Sadly he passed away in 1999.

I didn’t know that Dad! I remember hearing when he passed away. His work is still loved by many!
