Little Miss Sunshine got a bit of money from a couple of her Great Grandmas for her birthday. It was the first time she received money and understood it was “hers” and she could get (almost) whatever she wanted. So I asked her after she had the money for a day if she had decided what she wanted to buy herself. Her answer was not at all what I had expected!
“Yes. (Pointing to our saucer like papason chair) I would like a chair like that but in my size, and with Dora on, it to put in my bedroom.”
“You want a CHAIR for your bedroom? What will you do with this chair?”
“I will sit in it and read!”
Now, THAT is a girl after my own heart. “I think that would be a very good thing to get, Little Miss! Do you know where to find such a chair?”
“Yes. At Walmart.”
Wow. So last night after going out for ice cream, we stopped by Walmart. And while they didn’t have a Dora saucer chair, she found an even better one – a pink one with princesses on it. When she realized she still had some money left, I suggested she get a couple books to read while sitting in her new chair. Then on the way out she spotted a very pink, very sparkly, Barbie doll with butterfly wings. She looked at me and asked if she could get that too. I looked at the price tag and saw it had been marked down and told her she could. I wasn’t too surprised at the Barbie doll request because she has been playing with 2 of my old Barbies that she found in a box in the closet complete with a pile of pretty dresses my Mom sewed and crocheted for my Barbies back in the day. When we got to the checkout, the Barbie doll rang up even less than it had been marked. My girl has the gift of deep discount. I’m so proud!!
