I love a good story, especially when it’s a true story. So a book full of true, inspiring, even tear-provoking stories? I’m so there. If you love inspiring, true stories too, be sure to leave a comment on the bottom of this post to enter the drawing for the new book I Like Giving: The Transforming Power of a Generous Life.
.
Over spring break I had the pleasure of reading I Like Giving, a new book by Brad Formsma, the founder of www.ilikegiving.com.
Formsma founded the non-profit organization, I Like Giving, to inspire a generous world. “The website ilikegiving.com serves as a platform for unique storytelling and idea sharing. I Like Giving believes a generous world is a better world for all of us and wants your action, not your money. Go check out a story today and then go create one of your own.”
Take a few minutes and browse through the stories on their website. You’ll be so glad you did!
This book is a quick read, filled with page after page of inspiring stories and practical ideas for generosity. The giving lifestyle isn’t just about money. Formsma is quick to point out the variety of ways we can give and bless people around us – whether it’s a skill we have, or simply our time and a listening ear.
Formsma said he first learned about generosity as a child from his grandfather who owned a bakery in town. But it wasn’t until he was a successful adult living the American Dream that Formsma began to understand the power of generosity. After starting a family, Formsma and his wife Laura wanted to take their faith more seriously. Formsma prayed and asked God to take over His life and promised to do whatever God would ask. He said his life was never the same. He and Laura began to find ways to give that lined up with with their heart, and they discovered increased joy and excitement.
Joy doesn’t come from filling your life with stuff.
Joy comes from giving your life away.
β I Like Giving, p.20
Over the years, Formsma and his family and friends have found creative, sometimes spontaneous, and unique ways to give to people. It has become an everyday way of life for their family. As they started telling their stories, people from all over the country began to share their own giving stories with them. They started to make mini films to inspire others to give, and a movement was born.
To read the rest of the story, you’ll have to pick up a copy of I Like Giving. And I’m excited to have 3 copies to share with you today!

Mike, he addresses the topic of when people don’t accept your generosity, or make it difficult to give to them. He had some stories and some great and encouraging thoughts on the topic.

Sounds like my kind of book. Would love to share this with my kids too. Would be nice to change the world by giving rather than getting.

Carla, it’s definitely a great book to share with the kids! Many of the stories are great for kids, and he shares a couple stories from his own children as well.
